Susan Dawes has been appointed chair, and Ian Smart as vice-chair of the Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) board of directors. The change in leadership comes at the conclusion of Brita Chell’s term, which included the role of chair over the past four years. Dawes has been a member of the board since 2018, having most recently held the position of vice-chair and chair of the human resources and compensation committee. A partner at Myers LLP practicing exclusively in labour and administrative law, Dawes is counsel in arbitrations and Labour Board matters. Smart moves into the role of vice-chair in his fourth year on the board. After spending 20 years as an executive with the NFI Group and StandardAero, Smart now owns and operates his own business.
The board also appointed four new members: Karlene Debance, CEO health transformation of the Southern Chiefs’ Organization Inc; Carol Bellringer, former president and CEO of the Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation; Jodi Carradice, former SVP and chief people and culture officer of Wawanesa Mutual Insurance; and, Kelly Fournel, CEO of Tech Manitoba.
Allan Gray’s tenure as president and CEO at the Halifax Port Authority will conclude in late fall, 2024. Gray joined
the port in November 2019 for a five-year term with an option to renew. Gray will be returning to Australia when his term concludes. The Board has begun planning for leadership transition and succession, including beginning the CEO search process.
Röhlig Logistics has opened a Canadian office in Toronto. Jan Dreyer has been appointed general manager for Canada. Dreyer is a licensed freight forwarder with an MBA in marketing and brings international leadership experience, most recently as regional vice-president central Canada at Kühne+Nagel. Röhlig Canada will be affiliated with Röhlig USA under the responsibility of Rafael Ueltschi, CEO at Röhlig USA.
