Union urges members to vote ‘no’ in Canada Post labour dispute

Federal Labour Minister Patty Hajdu has ordered a vote on Canada Post’s “best and final offers” to its two major bargaining units, with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) urging its members to vote ‘no.’

The vote, mandated under the Canada Labour Code, will be conducted by the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), which is now scheduling a meeting with both parties. Canada Post was directed to submit relevant documents by the end of the day June 18. Voting dates and procedures have not yet been released.

CUPW’s national executive board and negotiating committees are unanimously urging members to reject the employer’s offers.

“Once again, the government has stepped into our bargaining process, attacking our rights and taking the employer’s side,” the union said in a bulletin to members.
