Canada Post, CPAA reach new collective agreement

Canada Post and the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association (CPAA) have finalized a new collective agreement following 18 months of negotiations.

The agreement, which covers more than 8,500 rural post office employees, includes an 11 per cent wage increase over three years — six per cent in 2024, three per cent in 2025 and two per cent in 2026. The increases are retroactive to Jan. 1, 2024.

CPAA is the second-largest bargaining agent at Canada Post and represents staff primarily managing rural postal operations.

The arbitrator overseeing the talks cited the May 15 release of the Industrial Inquiry Commission (IIC) report, stating that its “stark conclusions” had an impact on the proceedings. “Even under the challenging circumstances that the report outlined, the parties proved collective bargaining can work,” the arbitrator wrote.

The new agreement is effective from Jan. 1, 2024, to Dec. 31, 2026.
