CIFFA to launch new customs training credential in May

The Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA) says it will launch a new online credential program in May aimed at improving how customs professionals are trained in Canada.

The CIFFA Accredited Practitioner in Customs (CAPC) program will feature online lessons developed by experienced customs brokers, with content vetted by trade lawyers, the association said. The program is designed to go beyond theory by equipping participants to apply regulations in real-world scenarios.

“At a time when compliance expectations are rising and systems are evolving, the industry needs logistics professionals who can apply—not just recall—customs regulations,” said Bruce Rodgers, executive director of CIFFA.

The program will use case-based learning, with participants working through scenarios involving tariff classification, valuation, origin, documentation and compliance decision-making.

“This course uses analytical case studies and real-life scenarios to build practical skills,” said Lorin Levine, customs broker and consultant. “It moves beyond memorization and prepares individuals for both the profession and the Customs Broker Licensing Exam.”

CIFFA said the program is intended to support both new entrants to the field and those preparing for the Canada Border Services Agency Customs Broker Licensing Exam, with a focus on critical thinking, professional judgment and applied accuracy.

The CAPC program will be delivered online and on demand, allowing participants to complete the training at their own pace without fixed schedules or travel requirements.

More information is available on CIFFA’s website.
