UPS says it is investing nearly $50 million to expand its network capabilities and dedicated teams as it looks to help automotive and industrial manufacturers navigate increasingly complex supply chains.
The company also announced an expansion of its North American Air Freight service, including the introduction of time-definite heavy air freight shipping to and from Mexico for the first time.
UPS says the move is aimed at improving reliability and simplifying cross-border shipping by integrating transportation, brokerage and warehousing into a single solution.
“Our automotive and industrial customers want an easy button for logistics,” said Matt Guffey, UPS chief commercial and strategy officer. “They need reliability, visibility and a partner that understands their supply chains – end to end, today and tomorrow. We have made strategic investments to build the team and the network that meets their needs unlike any other in the industry.”
Beginning in August, the expanded service will offer one-, two- and three-day delivery options to and from Mexico, targeting high-value, time-sensitive shipments and aiming to reduce border delays.
UPS says it has also modernized its network in recent years through automation, expanded early delivery capabilities and added services such as same-day, after-hours delivery through Roadie, a UPS company.
The company has also established a team of more than 300 specialists focused on automotive and industrial customers, as manufacturers face ongoing pressure from automation, geopolitical uncertainty and regulatory changes.
David MacNeil, chief executive officer of WeatherTech, said predictable shipping has been key for the company.
“When we know what to expect from shipping, it helps us plan with confidence. That clarity allows us to stay focused on delivering a great experience for our customers.”
