No strike at DHL Express

BRAMPTON, Ontario—A strike has been averted at DHL Express.

Earlier this week, UNIFOR issued a issued a 72-hour notice strike notice to the company. The timing of the notice allowed the union members to begin their job action on December 5 if the two parties could not come to an agreement during negotiations.

Last evening, DHL Express issued a statement that the two sides had reached a “a tentative labour agreement after months of intense negotiations starting in May 2013.”

It includes a comment from DHL Express president Greg Hewitt.

“Following productive discussions with UNIFOR representatives, we are pleased to have reached a tentative deal which they have agreed to recommend to our dedicated workforce, ” he said.

“I am delighted for our customers and our people that we have been able to find a constructive solution. This will allow us to continue to support our customers with the service excellence that they have come to expect, especially during this busy holiday season.”

UNIFOR represents over 600 DHL Express employees in six Canadian provinces.
