SAMSys RFID technology receives boost from major backer

BTG International Ltd., a UK-based global technology commercialization company that has incubated major innovations such as the Hovercraft and magnetic resonance imaging, has invested $8.8 million into Canada’s SAMSys
Technologies Inc. a patented Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) provider.

This is the largest investment BTG has made in one company.

RFID is a wireless electronic system that uses radio frequency signals to identify, track and store information on tagged objects, eliminating the need for any physical contact. The worldwide market for RFID has projected sales in 2002 of $1.5 billion, according to Venture Development
Corp.
