Gridlock continues at LA, Long Beach ports

An Associated Press report says that severe container traffic congestion continues to plague operations at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, as well as truck and rail systems transporting freight inland.

Many containerships are facing waits of up to a week to unload their cargo, says the report, which notes that
thousands of new dock and rail workers have been hired recently for a plan to turn the ports into 24-hour operations, which won’t however take effect until next year.

The delays at the two ports is not the result of staffing shortages alone, says the report, and insufficient supplies of rail carriages and truck drivers are adding to the backlog.
