FedEx opens new Peterborough facility

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Federal Express Canada has opened a new facility in Peterborough, Ont. The “state-of-the-art” building, located at 2015 Fisher Drive, features more than 16,000 sq ft of space and the capacity to sort 1,044 packages per hour.

“We are very excited about the opening of this new facility,” said Pina Starnino, vice-president of operations for FedEx Express Canada. “This is just one example of the many ways in which FedEx Express Canada continues to invest in local communities. Not only will this location provide quality service, but it will also increase operational efficiencies and, in turn, improve business in this community.”

The Peterborough operation began in the spring of 1989 with premises of 2,000 sq ft.  Volume has grown over the past 20 years and today there are 18 employees, serving Peterborough, Cobourg, Uxbridge, Bancroft and Halliburton.

“Our new facility is a reflection of the ongoing commitment FedEx Express Canada demonstrates as we prepare for future growth,” said Starnino. “Our long term objective is to continue to deliver the highest level of service to our customers, while demonstrating continued commitment to the local community.”

The new facility, which provides express and ground transportation services, offers the ability to accommodate 11 vehicles on the conveyor system, a courtesy phone for customers and direct highway access.
