FREDERICTON, N.B. — The Fredericton International Airport Authority has announced that a new cargo lane will consolidate seafood at the Fredericton International Airport. The product will originate in the coastal areas of Atlantic Canada, arrive in Fredericton by truck, and move to Toronto by air, where it will be sorted for final destination in either Europe or Asia. Up until now, the seafood has been moving from Canada to the US to make it’s international connections. This marks the first ever cargo operation of this kind in Fredericton, according to officials.
President and CEO of the Fredericton International Airport Authority, David Innes, says that the airport authority has been working with a number of partners to develop the business case and reach this final result. EXP-AIR will move product on Cargojet aircraft from Fredericton to Toronto where the goods will be distributed to Europe and Asia. The service is tentatively scheduled to begin on June 21.
“We are excited about the new relationship between ourselves and EXP-AIR,” said Innes. “With their experience, their passion, and their global reach, EXP-AIR is the ideal partner to make this happen. This activity fits in perfectly with the economic trade strategy of the Canadian and New Brunswick governments to increase trade with Europe and Asia. This is truly a Canadian operation.”
