Strobel Starostka Transfer Canada LTD to acquire Simba Industries Transload LTD

RED DEER, Alta.–Strobel Starostka Transfer Canada LTD (SSTC)  will acquire Alberta-based Simba Industries Transload LTD (Simba),  rail terminal transload and logistics providers, for an undisclosed amount. Simba is currently led by company founder Marvin Trimble, who will stay on board to lead the company’s Canadian efforts as SSTC’s director of commercial development. The acquisition is expected to close in March 2014, said a company release.

Strobel Starostka Transfer Canada entered the Canadian market in 2014 alongside its design and construction affiliate, Strobel Starostka Construction Canada LTD (SSCC). Together SSCC and SSTC offer complete turnkey solutions to the growing Canadian crude-by-rail and NGL-by-rail markets, including rail terminal design, engineering, procurement, construction, startup, operations, logistics, switching, and railcar repair and maintenance. Both companies are affiliated with their U.S. counterparts, Strobel Starostka Construction LLC and Strobel Starostka Transfer LLC.

Simba and its founder Marvin Trimble have an 18-year history in the Canadian energy industry, participating in the design of more than 21 crude oil rail terminals, the startup of 15 terminals, the conversion of eight terminals to accommodate crude oil, and the loading and offloading of more than 4,800 railcars.

“The acquisition of Simba is a very exciting development as we take our first steps into the Canadian market and pursue our North American growth strategy,” said Steve Strobel, chief executive officer of Strobel Starostka Transfer Canada and Strobel Starostka Construction Canada.

“This is a powerful combination. The marriage of Simba’s reputation and Marvin’s experience in the Canadian energy industry with our unique, integrated approach will provide customers in Canada with improved terminal design, faster speed to market and a seamless handoff at startup for ongoing terminal operations.”

“The crude-by-rail industry in Canada is growing significantly,” said Marvin Trimble, founder and President of Simba Industries Transload. “As more unit train terminals are being built to keep up with increased oil production, we are seeing a gap in the market for turnkey terminal design, build and operations services. The Strobel Starostka companies are pioneers in the industry, with years of experience in rail facility design and construction and a proven track record of success in the operation of crude oil unit train facilities.

In addition to Marvin Trimble and Steve Strobel, SSTC’s management team is led by President Kevin Goins; Vice President of Operations Mike Salek; and Vice President of Commercial Development and Strategy Travis Brock. Simba’s current 22 employees will also join SSTC.
