Food-X Technologies, a Vancouver-based e-grocery startup, has entered into a three-year partnership with Calgary-based Attabotics, a robotics warehouse and fulfillment system provider. The partnership will implement Attabotics’ automated micro-fulfillment centres at Food-X DCs and partner fulfillment centres. The companies will also explore more business opportunities together, but the initial focus of the partnership will be on streamlining Food-X’s fulfillment technology and operations.
Kion Group AG has entered a strategic partnership with Quicktron, a Chinese manufacturer of autonomous mobile robots (AMR) based in Shanghai. Quicktron products will be distributed via the global sales and service networks of Kion brands Linde Material Handling, Still and Dematic. Kion also plans to acquire a minority stake of less than 10 percent in Quicktron. Quicktron was established in Shanghai in 2014 and currently employs around 400 individuals worldwide.
The Port of Halifax is using Descartes Datamyne to access detailed import/export data in its prospective trade lanes. Datamyne covers the commerce of 230 markets across five continents. Datamyne is part of Descartes’ Global Trade Intelligence solution that offers global trade duties, tariffs, agreements, regulations and restricted party data and services.
Amazon plans to open its first fulfillment centre in Forney, Texas, in 2021. In the one million square-foot facility more than 500 Amazon staff will pick, pack, and ship bulky or larger-sized customer items such as patio furniture, outdoor equipment, or rugs. Amazon is also planning a new 200,000 square-foot delivery station in Forney, which is to launch later in 2020.
CEVA Logistics Mexico has won a contract to operate a new dedicated warehouse to support IKEA Mexico’s operations in the country. This extends of the existing global partnership between the two companies. The Mexico City IKEA Store will become the company’s first retail location in Latin America and CEVA has been awarded a multi-year contract to operate it.
DP World is acquiring a 60 percent shareholding in UNICO Logistics Co. Ltd. Established in 2002 by H.J. Park and headquartered in South Korea, UNICO has a global footprint of 25 subsidiaries in 20 countries and is one of the largest independent NVOCCs (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) in South Korea. UNICO is also a multimodal transport specialist in the fast-growing transcontinental rail freight market between East-Asia and Central-Asia and Russia, in particular on the Trans-Siberian Railway (TSR) and Trans China Railway (TCR). The transaction is expected to close in Q4 2020.
