Soneil Investments has purchased two industrial properties for $120 million in the eastern portion of the Greater Toronto Area. The two properties, acquired separately, are on Birchmount Rd. in Toronto, and South Blair St. in Whitby, Ontario. Cumulatively, the assets contain three multi-tenant buildings of over 665,000 square feet on 41 acres of land. The transactions mark acquisitions surpassing $300 million year-to-date for Soneil.
Old Dominion Freight Line
Old Dominion Freight Line has added six new and expanded facilities since February 2021. It introduced new service centers in Benicia, California, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and Kenosha, Wisconsin, bringing its total count to 248 service centres, and relocated and/or expanded three more facilities in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Milford, Connecticut, and Warren, Ohio. The 20-door Benicia facility adds coverage between its San Francisco and Sacramento centres. The facility will serve wine country customers in Napa, Sonoma, and the surrounding area, eliminating three major daily bridge crossings for trucks coming from the San Francisco area. The 55-door Phoenixville facility opened in response to rapidly growing freight volume across Pennsylvania. Its 40-mile service area is expected to grow, and is has space for 30 more doors. The 103-door Kenosha facility will serve the growing Wisconsin area. Space for an additional 51 doors will allow it to grow alongside the burgeoning business community.
Kenco Logistics
Kenco Logistics is opening a new, 397,000-square-foot, multi-client facility in Perris, California, within its southern California campus. It joins other shared facilities operated by Kenco close to Los Angeles.
HelloFresh
HelloFresh plans to open a new distribution centre in Phoenix, Arizona. The nearly 440,000-square-foot facility will become the company’s largest shipping and fulfillment centre. The newly built facility will begin operations in Q4 2021 and could provide as many as 1,200 new jobs over time. HelloFresh also recently began operations in its new 375,000 square-foot distribution centre in Irving, Texas at the Dallas Forth Worth Airport.
Amazon
Amazon plans to open a fulfillment centre in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Employees at the more than one million-square-foot fulfillment centre, which is anticipated to launch in 2022, will pick, pack and ship large customer items. Amazon currently employs more than 52,000 full-time associates throughout the state of Florida and has fulfillment and sortation centres in Miami, Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville.
