The White House announced today that there will be a one-month exemption for the big three auto manufacturers in North America on auto tariffs when entering the U.S. from Canada under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
The big three automakers in North America are General Motors, Ford and Stallantis.
The news follows a conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Donald Trump, where Trump said on social media that Canada is not doing enough to stop the flow of fentanyl across the border.
Trudeau has said that Trump’s claim the tariffs are a response to the fentanyl issue is misleading, and instead believes the U.S. president is attempting to cripple the Canadian economy to make it easier to annex the country and make it the U.S.’s 51st state.
