Belleville, Ontario—After 90 years in business in Ontario and Quebec Myers Transport Ltd is closing its LTL operations.
The company cites economic conditions over the past ten years and “the resulting impact on the LTL market” as the reason for the closure, which takes effect on January 20th.
The company posted a letter from company chair Natalie Meyers to “valued customers”.
In it she notes, “We have always been proud to be a part of the economic fabric of Eastern Ontario and of our small town roots.”
The Meyers family will continue to be active in the transportation industry. Mortrans Inc. based in Belleville Ontario will continue to provide truckload and dedicated specialty service between Ontario, Quebec and the US; and will be owned and operated by Larry and Natalie Meyers.
Mosaic Logistics, based in Peterborough Ontario, will continue providing third party logistics services throughout North America and will be owned and operated by Jacquie Meyers.
The Meyers Transport customer list has been transferred to Manitoulin Transport. The two companies have cooperated for decades and with its new terminal network in Eastern Ontario, Manitoulin is “well placed to provide you the breadth of service you expect, and more,” the letter continued.
“The Meyers family would like to take this opportunity to provide a heartfelt thank you to all our valued customers for their business and support over the many years. Many of you are more than customers, you are our friends. To those of you we will no longer be working with, we will miss you as much as we will miss Meyers Transport,” it concluded.
