Ontario provides guidance on Covid-19 WSIB claims

TORONTO – The provincial government has reminded workers that any claims received by the WSIB for Covid-19 thought to have been contracted on the job will need to be adjudicated on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the facts and circumstances.

Workers who contracted Covid-19 while at work (with a diagnosis or symptoms of Covid-19), may file a claim to determine if they are eligible for WSIB coverage.

If a worker believes he or she was exposed to COVID-19 while at work, but is not ill at this time (no a diagnosis or symptoms of COVID-19), they are asked to not file a claim.

Instead, they should file an exposure incident form through the Program for Exposure Incident Reporting (PEIR) or Construction Exposure Incident Reporting (CEIR) program (specifically for the construction sector). These are voluntary reporting programs and each case will be assigned an incident number.

If the worker becomes ill in the future, the claim will be processed faster.

To report an exposure, please complete and fax the appropriate form below to 1-888-313-7373 or call 1-800-387-0750, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
