Sears DC to close

REGINA, Saskatchewan—Sears Canada will be moving one of its distribution centres, employing 276 people, from Regina to Calgary.

Nearly 1,000 jobs will be affected by the closure of five retail stores, including Sears’ flagship at the Toronto Eaton Centre, in 2014 and 2015.

The Regina distribution centre supports Sears’ online and catalogue business, shipping small ticket items to consumers in Western Canada.

The Regina facility will close late next spring, when the new one in Calgary opens.

Sears CEO Doug Campbell says the new location will offer a state-of-the art facility to improve delivery to customers.

He said the company will assist employees affected by Tuesday’s changes.
