SEATTLE, Washington—Amazon.com, Inc plans to open a sixth Texas fulfillment centre in Haslet, making it the fourth Amazon fulfillment centre in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitain area. Amazon currently employs more than 8,000 full-time hourly staff at its Texas DCs and plans to create 1,000 more full-time positions in the new Haslet facility when it opens.
Amazon employees at the 1 million square-foot Fort Worth centre will pick, pack, and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and toys.
In addition to its existing Haslet facility, which began shipping customer orders in 2013, Amazon’s other Lone Star State centres are located in Coppell, southern Dallas and Schertz, with a fifth currently under construction in San Marcos. Amazon also operates three sortation centres in Texas, located in Irving, Houston and San Antonio.
“We are excited to add another fulfillment centre to the Dallas-Fort Worth region and to create additional full-time jobs with great pay and benefits,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vice-president of North American operations. “We are appreciative of the community, not just in Haslet but the entire Dallas area for its support of Amazon, its top-notch workforce and the customers who enable us to continually grow across the country.”
Mayor Bob Golden of Haslet said, “Amazon has been not only a significant job creator in Haslet, but also a great community partner. Just a few months ago, the company donated Amazon tablets to a local school and $2,000 in gift cards to promote the use of technology in the classroom. It was a great event to be part of and I look forward to working with the team on future initiatives.”
