Amazon expanding in Vancouver

Amazon is adding five new facilities to its operations in Metro Vancouver.

A 450,000 square-foot advanced robotics fulfillment centre in the Port of Vancouver will launch in late 2021. This is Amazon’s first robotic fulfillment centre in the province. The company estimates it will create 1,000 jobs.

A new sorting centre in the City of Langley will open later in 2021. Langley Township is home to a new delivery station. It opened in mid-February. Delivery stations will open in Pitt Meadows and Delta later in 2021.

In total, Amazon estimates these facilities will create 2000 jobs.

Amazon employs more than 5,500 full- and part-time employees in operations, corporate and technology positions in British Columbia.

In Feb. 2021, Amazon was recognized as one of BC’s Top 100 Employers. Full-time employees at Amazon in British Columbia receive hourly wages starting at $16 in the province, medical, vision and dental coverage, a group RRSP plan, stock awards, and performance-based bonuses.

“This expansion by Amazon is an endorsement that British Columbia is a desirable place for a global company to make a long-term commitment,” said Ravi Kahlon, BC minister of jobs, economic recovery and innovation.

“We welcome the career opportunities created for people and families, and the chance to showcase to the world the amazing products from B.C.’s small- and medium-sized businesses.”
