Amazon is opening a new robotics manufacturing facility in Massachusetts.

The 350,000-square-foot facility in Westborough will include corporate offices, research and development labs, and manufacturing space. Together with Amazon Robotics’ current site in North Reading, Massachusetts the facilities will be the centre of the company’s robotics innovation.

Manufacturing of Amazon Robotics mobile drive units will be a primary focus in the facility. Since 2012, when Amazon first began introducing robotics into its facilities, the company has added more than 350,000 drive units across its facilities. These drive units and other robotic technologies work closely with employees to help fulfill customer orders.

In addition to opening the new robotics facility in Westborough, Amazon is hiring 1,500 new full and part-time operations jobs across its sites in Massachusetts. These jobs include stowing, picking, packing, and sorting customer orders, in addition to roles in management, IT, HR, safety, and security.

North Dakota

The one million-square-foot Fargo DC is the largest building in the state or North Dakota.

Amazon’s has also recently announced the opening of its first fulfillment centre in North Dakota. The facility in Fargo is up and running. Employees started work within the new one million-plus square foot facility on Sunday, Sept. 19. It is the largest structure in the State of North Dakota (in terms of square footage).

In non-sortable fulfillment centres, like the new facility in Fargo, associates pick, pack, and ship bulky or larger-sized customer items such as patio furniture, outdoor equipment, or rugs. Amazon’s first investment in the state was a delivery station in West Fargo, which is still operational.

The 147,000-square-foot facility is on Las Vegas boulevard.

Vegas

As well, the e-commerce behemoth has recently announced the opening of a new delivery station in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 147,000 square foot station is the third in the Las Vegas area and the 13th operations site in Nevada with additional locations in Las Vegas, Henderson, and Reno. Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighboring Amazon fulfillment and sortation centres, loaded into delivery vehicles, and delivered to customers.
