To raise awareness and increase compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its regulations, the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) will be conducting a province-wide inspection initiative focusing on machine guarding. The inspections will run from February 17 to March 31, 2020.
Join Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) and the MLTSD for a complimentary one-hour webinar that will help you prepare for inspections. You will learn about machine guarding, locking and blocking, electrical hazards and more. The webinar will also include a Q&A period. Space is limited.
About Machine Guarding
Workers can be exposed to several hazards when machines are not properly guarded during installation, repair or maintenance. These hazards can result in serious injuries or fatalities.
According to the Ministry, the WSIB received 2,829 claims from workers for lost-time injuries related to machine guarding and electrical hazards in 2017.
Of those total claims, 2,107 reported to be caught in or compressed by equipment or objects or collapsing material.
