Amazon is set to impose a 3.5 per cent fuel and logistics-related surcharge on fulfillment fees in Canada and the U.S. starting April 17 due to recent increases in fuel costs.
Amazon released an email to sellers recently, saying that elevated costs in fuel and logistics have increased the cost of operating across the industry. The company said it has absorbed these increased costs so far, but like other major carriers, when costs remain elevated, it will implement temporary surcharges on its fulfillment fees to recover a portion of the actual cost increases it is experiencing.
Starting April 17, the 3.5 per cent fuel and logistics-related surcharge will be applied to fulfillment fees across Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) in the U.S. and Canada as well as to Remote Fulfillment with FBA from the U.S. into Canada, Mexico and Brazil. Starting May 2, this surcharge will take effect for Buy with Prime in the U.S. and Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) in the U.S. and Canada.
The surcharge will be calculated on sellers’ fulfillment fees, not on the sale price of an item.
