Greenergy has signed a long-term lease with the Belledune Port Authority for a tank facility at the northern New Brunswick port.
The agreement marks a strategic investment in the deep-water import terminal and adds to Greenergy’s fuel terminal network.
Chief Terry Richardson of Pabineau First Nation said: “We are excited about Greenergy entering the Port of Belledune. It brings jobs to the region and ensures the future of the port through in-out business. We’ve talked with Greenergy and First Nations and see opportunity for our communities through contracting and jobs. If we are to bring prosperity back to the region we must do it one project at a time.”
Greenergy said the facility will strengthen its supply capability and ensure fuel security, with products available at the port or transported by rail through CN’s network.
“Our investment in Belledune strengthens our import capability and creates additional capacity where it is needed,” said Mike Healey, Greenergy’s managing director for North America.
Denis Caron, the port’s president and CEO, said the investment supports its green and clean development goals.
“CN is proud to enable this new supply of energy to Canadian markets,” added Janet Drysdale, CN’s interim chief commercial officer.
