CPC president takes home Premier’s Award in business category

Belinda Junkin has won the 2010 Premier’s Awards for Outstanding Colleges Graduates in the Business category.

Junkin is a Business Administration—Materials Management and Distribution graduate of the class of 1985 from Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario.

She is also the current president and CEO of the Cobourg, Ontario-based Canadian Pallet Council (CPC).

The awards are presented annually to six recipients and celebrate the contributions college graduates make to Ontario and throughout the world.

Nominations are submitted from each of Ontario’s 24 colleges in six categories:

• business;
• creative arts and design;
• community services;
• health sciences;
• technology; and
• recent graduate.

The selection panel chose Junkin out of 17 nominations in the business category. Her career includes production planning and transportation at Quaker Oats Canada.

In her role with the CPC, Junkin oversees 1,300 members who own, and each year exchange, more than seven million orange pallets. The interchange system saves Canadian consumers close to $300 million annually.

Junkin is also working on a new software project that will reduce shipping distances for the return of empty pallets and save tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. She also sits on MM&D’s editorial advisory board.

Each of the six recipients will receive a bronze medal, as well as a $5,000 donation made to their college.
