OTA announces new board

At its 84th annual general meeting on November 18, the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) announced its new directors for the 2010 to 2012 term of office.

The slate of directors includes 65 carriers selected from 10 regional ridings (including 14 new faces) as well as the past chairman of the association.

The OTA’s Allied Trades Division also nominated three of its directors and the Toronto Trucking Association has one seat.

The new chairman of the board of directors is Brian Taylor. Taylor is founder and president of Liberty Linehaul Inc, an LTL and truckload carrier that is based in Ayr, Ontario, and has a fleet of 48 tractors and 95 trailers.

Taylor says he plans to continue with the agenda and policy the OTA has adopted, to make all operators accountable in terms of safety and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

He will also focus on the relationship between carriers, shippers and 3PLs and the obligations these groups have to each other. He also adds that he will continue the dialogue on what needs to be done to recruit and retain quality people in the industry.

Other members of the executive committee of the board include:

• Evan MacKinnon of MacKinnon Transport in Guelph, Ontario becomes vice-chairman;
• Jeff Bryan of Jeff Bryan Transport in Burford, Ontario becomes secretary; and

• Scott Tilley of Tandet Group in Oakville, Ontario becomes treasurer.

And members of the executive committee at-large are:

• Gary Babcock of QuikX Transportation;
• Stan Dunford of Contrans;
• Rick Gaetz of Vitran;
• Serge Gagnon of XTL;
• Gord Grant of  Grant’s Transport;
• Mike McCarron of MSM Transportation;
• Steve Ondejko of Onfreight;
• Rob O’Reilly of TST Overland;
• James Steed of Steed Standard Transport;
• Steve Thibert of Tibbs Transport.
