Swissport wins cargo contract in Brussels

Swissport and Lufthansa have signed a five-year contract for cargo handling at Brussels and Liège airports. The agreement covers Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines.

At the end of December 2019, Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo renewed their agreement regarding cargo handling at Brussels and Liège airports. The agreement includes warehousing and cargo ramp transport of mail, pharmaceuticals, valuables and general cargo for Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines. The contract is valid until the end of 2024.

For Swissport, the renewed agreement yields a substantial increase in tonnage handled at its cargo facility at Brussels airport, where it is currently completing a major expansion. Lufthansa’s renewal is based on a thorough selection process and the successful cooperation between Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo to date.

“We are pleased to anchor the cargo handling business for Lufthansa Cargo at Brussels Airport and look forward to further growing our cooperation across our global network” says Rudolf Steiner, Swissport’s senior vice-president Cargo for EMEA.

In October 2019, Swissport opened a new, dedicated Pharma Center at Brussels Airports. The facility boasts 3,620 square metres of temperature controlled, state-of-the-art warehousing space. Swissport‘s existing 25,000 sqm warehouse is also undergoing a refurbished from the ground up.

Swissport Belgium, with a workforce of some 2,000 employees, handles more than 550,000 tons of air cargo per year. Its ground services division serves some 7.5 million passengers annually.

Swissport International AG handled roughly 4.8 million tons of air freight in 115 cargo warehouses worldwide. At the end of September 2019, Swissport was active at 307 airports in 48 countries on six continents.
