Who’s on the move: February 5, 2024

Montreal Port Authority (MPA)

Julie Gascon has been appointed president and CEO of the Montreal Port Authority (MPA). She takes over the position on February 12, 2024. Gascon is currently CEO of the Pacific Pilotage Authority. From 2005 to 2015, she worked as a regulator at Transport Canada. From 2015 to June 2020, she was appointed first as assistant commissioner Central and Arctic Region, and then as director general, operations at the Canadian Coast Guard. In July 2020, she returned to Transport Canada as director general, marine safety and security. From Greater Montreal, she began her career as a graduate of the Canadian Coast Guard College. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Montreal, and a bachelor’s degree of Technology in Nautical Sciences from the University College of Cape Breton. Gascon spent most of her seafaring career sailing on Canadian Coast Guard ships. Starting on the West Coast fleet in 1998, she also spent time on the worldwide fleet on very large crude carriers and large passenger vessels to complete her Master Mariner certification.

Maersk

Charles van der Steene

Charles van der Steen is the new regional president for North America at Maersk. Van der Steene joined Maersk in 2011 and previously led Maersk’s commercial organization in North America. He most recently headed up Maersk’s Global commercial excellence and transformation organization. Narin Phol, who served in the role of regional president of North America since 2019, moves into the role of chief product officer for logistics and services on the executive leadership team,  based in Copenhagen.

Groupe Morneau

André Morneau, president of Groupe Morneau since 1988, has passed leadership of the company to his children, Catherine Morneau and David Morneau. They are now co-presidents. They are the fourth generation of Morneau family to assume leadership of the company. André Morneau continues as chairman of the board.
