Members of the International Warehouse Logistics Association elected Tom Herche, president of Seattle-based United Warehouses as the 2014-2015 chairman. IWLA finalized the election March 25, during the 2014 IWLA Convention & Expo in Phoenix, Arizona. Herche previously served as the association’s vice chairman and 2014 IWLA Convention Planning Committee Chairman. He succeeds Paul Verst, CWLP, president and CEO of Verst Group Logistics, Walton, Kentucky. Herche has more than 30 years of experience in the warehousing industry. As president of United Warehouses Herche is responsible for the company’s operations, systems and infrastructure, finance, engineering, and customer service IWLA members also elected board officers: Rob Doyle, CWLP, vice president of Business Development for Commercial Warehousing Inc in Winterhaven, Florida, ascends to vice chairman and chairman-elect from the treasurer position. Mark DeFabis, president & CEO for Integrated Distribution Services, Inc, in Plainfield, Indiana, moves to treasurer from secretary. Clifford Otto, president and CEO for Saddle Creek Logistics Services, in Lakeland, Florida, is the new IWLA secretary. André Thornton, president & CEO of Akron, Ohio-based ASW Global, LLC, and Ken Johnson, president & CEO of Shippers Warehouse, Inc, based in Dallas, Texas, were also appointed to three-year terms on the IWLA Board of Directors.
STAR Systems International, an RFID Hardware, Tag and Professional Services provider, has appointed Stephen Lockhart as its new chief technology officer. Lockhart has over 16 years of experience as a software developer, including 11 years of worldwide experience working with UHF readers, tags and applications. In previous positions with Sirit, Federal Signal Technologies and 3M, he was a key figure in the development of readers, tags and systems, along with the deployment and implementation for RFID projects using ISO 18000 6C / EPC Class 1 Gen 2 in Tolling, Access Control, Logistics and Retail. In his new role both Application Engineering and Product Management teams will be reporting to him. He also will head STAR’s Professional Services, Solutions & Consulting offerings. He will be based in the Dallas, Texas area.
Jim Cowan has joined Greenbrier as senior vice-president, operations. He will report to William Furman, chairman and CEO of Greenbrier. In this newly created role, Cowan will utilize his experience in manufacturing and the rail industry to support Greenbrier’s operations across its integrated business model. Cowan is well known in the railcar industry, with years of experience in senior leadership positions. Most recently, he worked for Amsted Rail supporting their activities in Brazil. Prior to that Cowan served as President and Chief Executive Officer of publicly traded American Railcar Industries, Inc. (ARI) where he worked approximately eight years. He was also a member of the board of directors for three ARI joint ventures including Axis, an axle manufacturing business.
