Canada to prioritize critical mineral supply chains at G7 Summit

Canada will focus on strengthening critical mineral supply chains as part of its priorities for the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced.

Set to take place June 15 to 17 in Kananaskis, Alta., the summit will centre on bolstering energy security and accelerating the digital transition — a mission that includes reinforcing supply chains for critical minerals and harnessing technologies like artificial intelligence and quantum computing to drive economic growth.

“Canada has what the world wants and the values to which others aspire,” Carney said in a statement. “The G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis is a moment for Canada to work with reliable partners to meet challenges with unity, purpose and force. Canada is ready to lead.”

Alongside energy and economic priorities, Canada will also push for coordinated G7 action to protect communities by addressing peace and security, foreign interference and transnational crime, while enhancing wildfire response efforts.

The agenda will also include efforts to attract private investment in infrastructure, support high-paying jobs and expand global market access. Ongoing global conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and outreach to partners beyond the G7 will round out the summit’s discussions.
