DETROIT – Kuehne + Nagel, Inc. has opened its Detroit office, home to the first ever Kuehne + Nagel, Inc. Operational Care Center (OCC) and Career Development Program.
Located in downtown Detroit, the office will employ 100 people by March 2, 2020 and will add another 100 positions by year end.
The rigorous two-year career development path is a deep dive into the field of international logistics. High-school and college graduates participate in the program and go on to become logistics professionals who are eligible to work in one of 1,300 Kuehne + Nagel offices worldwide.
“Education is in Michigan’s DNA,” said Adam Hollier, a Michigan senator.
“We applaud Kuehne + Nagel for launching their training program in Detroit and for recognizing the fact that we have an impressive pool of talented young people waiting for great opportunities like this one.”
A top priority of the Operational Care Center is to streamline the number of touch points required to import goods internationally thus allowing the 47 U.S. branch offices to focus on customer service.
“With an eye toward the future, we are investing in the next generation of logistics professionals. Our program teaches participants how to be among a team of the top logistics pros in the world, delivering the best results across the industry,” said Marcus Reimann, senior vice-president, Seafreight North America, Kuehne + Nagel, Inc.
“Detroit is undergoing a major revival and has a large and skilled young population, making it the obvious location to attract and develop tomorrow’s leaders in logistics.”
With over 82,000 employees at more than 1,300 locations in over 100 countries, the Kuehne + Nagel Group provides freight forwarding services for seafreight, airfreight, contract logistics and overland businesses, with a focus on high value-added segments such as IT-based integrated logistics solutions.
