Wiliot, an ambient Internet of Things (IoT) technology company, announced a partnership with Walmart to deploy millions of its IoT Pixels across the retailer’s supply chain — marking what the companies call the first large-scale use of ambient IoT in retail.
The collaboration integrates Wiliot’s ambient IoT sensors with Walmart’s artificial intelligence systems to improve supply chain efficiency, inventory accuracy and cold chain compliance. The technology provides real-time data showing where merchandise is located throughout the network.
“With Walmart, we are advancing supply chain performance at an unprecedented scale,” said Tal Tamir, CEO of Wiliot. “This nationwide deployment adds a new layer of digitization to Walmart’s supply chain, empowering associates with real-time insights and automation that drive greater efficiency, accuracy and responsiveness.”
The companies say the initiative could track 90 million pallets by the end of 2026, one of the largest ambient IoT deployments to date. The system is already being used in 500 Walmart locations, with a national rollout planned next year across 4,600 stores and more than 40 distribution centres.
“At Walmart, technology is in service of people – both our customers and our associates,” said Greg Cathey, Walmart’s senior vice-president of transformation and innovation. “With Wiliot’s ambient IoT technology, coupled with our AI systems, we’re not only optimizing our supply chain to make faster, smarter inventory decisions, but we’re also tackling one of the hardest problems in retail—knowing exactly what we own and where it is at any given moment.”
Wiliot said the collaboration is already reducing manual work, resolving inventory discrepancies and improving customer experience through better visibility and automation.
