Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) resumed contract talks Aug. 20 with the help of federal mediators, as both sides exchanged new proposals following a rejected company offer earlier this summer.
The Crown corporation said it received CUPW’s response to its “best and final offers” that were tabled May 28 and is reviewing the union’s position ahead of further meetings scheduled for Aug. 22 and Aug. 25.
CUPW said it presented “global offers” covering both of its postal bargaining units, insisting the union’s proposals reflect demands ratified before the current round of talks began. The union said members rejected Canada Post’s last offers during a recent forced vote and are seeking improvements they argue are necessary in new collective agreements.
Canada Post said it remains committed to reaching new contracts through the bargaining process.
