Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) will return to the bargaining table Aug. 15, with federal mediators present, as the two sides remain far apart on new collective agreements.
The Crown corporation says it is seeking a “detailed and comprehensive” response from the union to its “best and final offers” presented May 28, which it says address significant and growing challenges, including declining letter mail volumes and increased parcel competition.
CUPW says members overwhelmingly rejected those offers and accuses Canada Post of delaying talks earlier this year by requesting a forced vote. The union says its priority is securing ratifiable agreements, not more “discussions that go nowhere,” and maintains its national overtime ban.
Both sides also plan to meet Aug. 18.
