Canada Post submits transformation plan to government to modernize postal services

Canada Post has proposed a comprehensive transformation plan to the Joël Lightbound, minister of government transformation, public works and procurement, outlining actions to modernize services while ensuring financial sustainability.

The plan follows the government’s Sept. 25 directive removing barriers to reform, including converting remaining households to community mailboxes, modernizing post offices, amending letter mail service standards and reducing overhead costs. Canada Post said its proposal also supports accessibility for Canadians in rural, remote and Indigenous communities.

“The comprehensive plan we have submitted responds to our challenges and modernizes the postal service to support today’s economy while serving all Canadians. While our situation requires that we act with urgency, we will be thoughtful and respectful in our approach and responsive to feedback. Canadians deserve a postal service that is strong, stable and focused on meeting their changing needs, and we are focused on delivering that,” said Doug Ettinger, president and CEO of Canada Post.

The corporation said it will continue collaborating with the government and plans to share details of the transformation with customers, employees and the public once the plan is finalized and endorsed.

Canada Post said its approach will be guided by five principles: prioritizing service, proceeding thoughtfully, treating employees with respect, keeping Canadians informed and remaining flexible to evolving needs.
