Canada Post to table new offers in CUPW negotiations

Canada Post says it plans to present new “global offers” to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers next week in an effort to move stalled contract negotiations forward.

The Crown corporation says the proposals will include detailed legal language and aim to find common ground on key issues, including weekend delivery.

CUPW tabled its latest offers Aug. 20, which Canada Post says added significant costs and restrictions. The company had asked the union to return with what it called “workable solutions,” but says that has not happened.

As talks resume, Canada Post is also asking CUPW to end its ban on delivering unaddressed mail, which has left flyers for community newspapers, small businesses and charities stuck in its network. The union imposed the ban last Friday as part of escalating strike action.

Canada Post says it will not accept new Neighbourhood Mail until it can provide more certainty about delivery.
