Canada Post urges CUPW to soften bargaining stance amid “mounting losses”

Canada Post is calling on the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to revisit its bargaining proposals, saying the union’s latest counter-offers fail to address the corporation’s financial challenges.

The Crown corporation says it has been negotiating in good faith with CUPW for nearly two years but that the union has “either maintained or hardened its position” on many issues while introducing new demands.

Canada Post says several of the union’s proposals would increase operational costs and that CUPW’s plan for weekend delivery remains “unaffordable, problematic and complex to manage.”

The company says it remains open to reviewing amended proposals that align with its financial realities and urged both sides to agree on a path that supports employees while making the postal service more sustainable.

Negotiations are ongoing under the oversight of an Industrial Inquiry Commission.
