Report outlines how industries track logistics performance

RXO has released a new report that breaks down how supply chain professionals across multiple industries track and manage logistics key performance indicators (KPIs).

The report, Logistics KPI Benchmarks, By Industry, provides KPI trends and profiles for automotive, consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, health care, manufacturing and retail shippers. It builds on data from The Logistics Professional’s Guide to KPIs, published in February in partnership with research firm Qualtrics.

“Understanding how the entire freight market approaches KPIs is an essential foundation, but different industries can have slightly different norms and requirements,” said Ben Steffes, vice-president of solutions and strategy at RXO. “Shippers want to know how their direct industry peers are setting and managing their KPI benchmarks. Now, with data from hundreds of companies, they can see exactly where other shippers in their vertical are setting the standard.”

The report found that 96 per cent of food and beverage shippers see KPIs as essential to logistics management, the highest among sectors surveyed. Health care shippers rated themselves as the most advanced at tracking supply chain metrics, while health care and retail were most likely to use artificial intelligence in logistics operations.

Automotive and consumer packaged goods shippers were most likely to raise carrier KPI standards, and manufacturers were the most demanding overall, with 39 per cent setting expectations that exceeded industry standards across core KPIs.

“Managing supply chain data is incredibly important for shippers, regardless of industry,” said Steffes. “Modern logistics professionals can check their strategies against these profiles as they determine what technologies to use, which metrics to track, where to set benchmarks, and how to leverage data to drive efficiency.”

The full report is available on RXO’s website.
