Bridgestone Canada, Inc. has opened a new distribution centre in Ancaster, Ontario.
With a maximum storage capacity of 570,000 tires, the new 450,000-square-foot warehouse will support customers in Eastern Canada. It will employ about 50 people and will be operated by a third-party logistics supplier.
Bridgestone says its investment of close to $65 million will allow it to reduce transportation costs and shorten time-to-market for its products. Ancaster is in Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe region, and is close to Hamilton, Ontario and the 403 highway.
“We are excited about opening our new Ancaster distribution centre and look forward to providing even better service to our customers as our Canadian business continues to grow. We want to thank Ancaster city officials, as well as our Bridgestone employees, who worked diligently through the COVID-19 pandemic to complete this important initiative,” said Brad Blizzard, vice-president, logistics operations and product delivery, Bridgestone Americas.

Second warehouse in three years
This investment builds upon the company’s 2018 announcement about the construction of an automated warehouse at its Canadian passenger and light truck tire manufacturing facility in Joliette, Québec. The Joliette investment, estimated at $56 million (US$45 million), is designed to streamline service to North American tire dealers and customers.
“This strategic investment in our supply chain will further strengthen our distribution footprint in Canada allowing us to better deliver the high-value-added products our customers want and need,” said Riccardo Cichi, president and chief sales officer North America, Bridgestone Americas.
“With its location and increased capability to house tires onsite, the new distribution centre will improve our ability to better serve our customers with the right tires in the right place at the right time.”
