Purolator’s network is prepared to manage an anticipated increase in package volumes resulting from the Canada Post strike and the busy holiday shipping season.
The company expects to process more than 43 million packages during its peak season, including over 25 million in the month leading up to Christmas. A portion of that volume is anticipated to come from customers impacted by the Canada Post labour disruption.
“Purolator is open for business. As the courier company with the largest reach in Canada, our network is well prepared and ready to deliver continued success for our customers, and all Canadians, including those who have been impacted by the recent Canada Post labour disruption,” said Chris Spanjaard, senior vice-president and chief operating officer at Purolator.
“The holidays are always an incredibly busy time. In just the last week, we have already seen double-digit growth in our volume, week over week, and we expect that demand will continue to increase with the ongoing labour disruption, and as holiday shipping ramps up.”
Following the Canada Post strike, Purolator stated: “The Purolator network is well prepared and ready to deliver continued success for our customers and all Canadians, including new customers who have been impacted by this labour disruption. While negotiations continue, Purolator will remain fully operational, and all Purolator-labelled shipments will continue to be delivered with uninterrupted service.”
To support customers during the season, Purolator is offering several promotions, including a flat-rate shipping option starting at $15, plus taxes and fees, for province-wide shipping and $20 for ground shipping across Canada. Customers can also access a coupon for discounts of up to 50 per cent.

But wait, Purolator is owned by Canada Post, and about 5 days ago they stated they weren’t going to make deliveries out of solidarity with the strike. Did they decide to renege on that?
This is a great question. Purolator is mostly owned by Canada Post, and will not handle Canada Post packages, but will continue to handle Purolator-labeled packages during the strike.
