CITT has announced the program and details of The Road to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Logistics – a two-week online series of workshops, roundtables and networking.
The series and its programming will look at the logistics sector’s talent gap from the perspective of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I). CITT’s goal, according to Chrissy Aitchison, CITT’s director of innovation and strategic projects, is equipping current and future industry leaders to better understand the principles – and case for – DE&I in a business context.
“CITT’s preliminary discussions around this initiative with professionals and organizations strongly confirmed our instinct that the logistics industry has an appetite for workshops like these” Aitchison said.
“Leading organizations see the intensifying talent gap and know that logistics, like almost every industry, needs to do better with diversity. And they see the clear connection between those issues. The leaders charting the future of the industry will need to understand how to implement DE&I in their organizations. And we’re excited to offer a program that demonstrates both how and why to do so.”
Pina Melchionna, CITT’s president and CEO, believes that initiatives like this are vital for leadership that wants to make talent a competitive advantage. “Thinking outside of traditional talent pools will help you find people who bring fresh perspectives and ideas to your organization” she says.
“Diverse hiring – and then building a workplace of inclusion and equity – is a surefire way to avoid uniformity of ideas that harms so many businesses. These concepts of inclusion really are core competencies of elite professionals in logistics. They’re no longer nice-to-have, but crucial for competently managing an organization.”
Week two concludes with an Alberta-focused job fair, allowing delegates to connect with talent and put the weeks’ learning into practice. Businesses or individuals interested in the job fair component are not required to register for the entire two-week, Canada-wide workshops.
