The federal government is backing Siemens Canada’s plan to establish a global AI manufacturing technologies R&D centre for battery production, a move aimed at strengthening Canada’s clean energy sector.
Innovation Minister Anita Anand said the centre will advance battery efficiency and production methods, keeping Canada competitive in the global battery industry.
“Canada is a world leader in battery manufacturing, including here at home in Oakville,” Anand said. “Thanks to our skilled workforce and our access to global markets, Siemens is choosing Canada for its research and development centre.”
Siemens Canada president and CEO Faisal Kazi said the project will boost Canada’s national battery and electric vehicle ecosystem while fostering collaboration with academia and industry.
“With investment from Siemens and the support of the federal government, this initiative will not only enhance Canada’s competitiveness in the global battery market but also contribute to the country’s economic growth,” Kazi said.
The government says the initiative aligns with its strategy to build a low-carbon economy, create jobs and reinforce Canada’s role in the global supply chain.
