Walmart to open new Supercentre in London, Ont.

Walmart Canada says it plans to open a new Supercentre in southwest London, Ont., in 2028 as part of a broader expansion of its store network.

The company said the roughly 140,000-square-foot store will be located at the intersection of Wonderland Road South and Wharncliffe Road South, where Walmart will serve as an anchor tenant in a new commercial development.

“As part of our $6.5 billion investment in Canada announced last year, we’re excited to announce this new Supercentre, located in southwest London,” said Shawn Fujiki, senior director of real estate at Walmart Canada. “As the nearby community continues to grow, including several planned developments nearby, we’re proud to bring Walmart Canada’s assortment and everyday low prices to the community.”

The Supercentre is expected to include a full grocery department, general merchandise, a pharmacy and online order pickup and delivery for grocery and general merchandise, Walmart said.

Ali Soufan, president of York Developments, said Walmart’s presence highlights the area’s growth potential.

“Welcoming Walmart to our development as an anchor tenant underscores the strength of the London market and the community value of well-located, large-format retail,” Soufan said. “We’re proud to collaborate with a high-caliber national retailer like Walmart to support the long-term growth potential of the Wonderland Gateway development.”

Walmart said the site will offer access to major highways, public transit routes and key population centres across the city.

The company announced a $6.5 billion investment over five years in 2025 to expand its Canadian store and supply chain footprint. It has since opened new Supercentres in Port Credit and Oakville, Ont., and an ambient distribution centre in Vaughan, Ont., with additional Supercentres planned in Alberta, Quebec and Ontario.
