Port of Montreal launches action plan to fight stolen vehicle exports

The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) has unveiled a five-year action plan aimed at curbing the illegal export of stolen vehicles.

Announced at the first regional forum of port security partners, the plan was developed in consultation with government agencies, law enforcement and the automotive industry. It focuses on four key areas: strengthening collaboration with law enforcement, raising awareness within the supply chain, enhancing tracking technology and supporting vehicle theft victims.

“Though vehicles are not stolen from port territory, we bear a collective responsibility to do what it takes to stop this scourge, in conjunction with our partners,” said Julie Gascon, MPA president and CEO.

The plan aligns with federal and provincial initiatives, including the National Summit on Combatting Auto Theft. The MPA will review and adjust the plan every two years and hold an annual forum to assess progress.
