Marine Transportation Services wraps up 2025 northern resupply season

Marine Transportation Services (MTS) has completed its 2025 resupply season, delivering essential cargo and fuel to 10 northern communities across the Mackenzie River, Great Slave Lake and the Western Arctic and Kitikmeot regions.

The annual service provides cost-effective resupply for residents and businesses in remote areas. This year, MTS delivered more than 18 million litres of fuel and over 2,000 revenue tonnes of cargo to Łutselkʼe, Tulita, Norman Wells, Fort Good Hope, Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Ulukhaktok, Sachs Harbour, Paulatuk and Kugluktuk.

In preparation for the sailing season, MTS worked with the Department of Infrastructure’s Fuel Services Division to coordinate fuel logistics, hydrologists from the Department of Environment and Climate Change to monitor water and snowpack levels, and the Canadian Coast Guard to ensure buoy placement along the Mackenzie River.

“Marine Transportation Services works hard every year to ensure that residents and businesses who rely on its services for freight and fuel get these supplies in a cost-effective and timely manner,” said Vince McKay, Minister of Infrastructure. “The work done every sailing season includes northern businesses, partnerships with industry and communities, and multiple departments across the GNWT. We learn more each year about how external factors affect our operations and will continue to look for ways to ensure and improve the safe and accurate delivery of our barges to northern residents.”

MTS made two trips this season to Łutselkʼe, Tulita, Norman Wells and Fort Good Hope.
