Polaris Transportation Group launches sustainability action plan

Polaris Transportation Group has unveiled a comprehensive sustainability action plan aimed at reducing its environmental footprint while supporting the communities it serves. As a prominent figure in North American transportation and logistics, the family-owned company says it is committed to sustainability as part of its long-term strategy.

In 2023, Polaris collaborated with University of Guelph’s professor Audrey Jamal to create the plan, which aligns with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The plan focuses on five sustainability pillars: work, employees, planet, community and partners.

“Polaris came to me with the intention to elevate their already existing eco-friendly practices. We developed a holistic plan highlighting their corporate duties to protect the planet, take care of the people across their company and communities while working with ethical, environmentally conscious partners,” said Jamal. “It brings me hope to see prominent carriers like Polaris demonstrating this outstanding commitment to their sustainability efforts.”

Key initiatives include reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy-efficient technologies, fuel-efficient equipment and AI-driven route optimization. The company is also making facility upgrades and using digitized administrative processes to streamline operations. Polaris has partnered with Green Economy Canada to monitor the effectiveness of these efforts.

Polaris said it is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and has been recognized as a Top Company for Women to Work in Transportation. The company also gives back through volunteerism and charitable donations, with the recent launch of the Polaris Community Care Unit providing over 27,000 pounds of food and essential items to food banks and shelters.

“As Polaris moves towards a more sustainable future, I am deeply passionate about making a positive difference for our people, partners, community and planet,” said Dave Cox, Polaris CEO. “Together, we can drive real change.”

The company has also established a Sustainability Task Force and onboarded a sustainability coordinator to oversee the plan’s execution and track progress through annual reports.
