Capacity issues behind strategic appointment

Lakeside Logistics’ transportation operations and sales expert Carson Magill has been appointed the first manager of Carrier Relations for the company.
"Creating the new position was a strategic decision," said Jeff Moore, Managing Director, Lakeside Logistics. "By putting more focus on our carriers, it will help to alleviate the issues around capacity."
As manager of Carrier Relations, Carson will address the issue of load capacity, focus on building on existing business relationships, and develop new partnerships with carriers.
Securing the required number of carriers to meet clients’ needs is an industry issue, and the current lack of capacity, fuelled by driver shortage and increased product volume, is mounting pressure on Canadian distribution systems.
Lakeside has incorporated this issue to its operations strategy.
"It’s no longer enough to post load availabilities on our website and keep our logistics coordinators working the phones," said Chris Magill, Managing Director, Lakeside Logistics. "We have to be more aggressive in making our case with our carriers. This is a critical issue for us and for the industry. Until we can source more capacity on a regular basis, our service levels are at risk and our growth strategy is frozen."
