AA Cargo to offer “drive-thru” service

by Canadian Shipper

American Airlines Cargo will be unveiling a new priority parcel shipments service, to be the first drive-thru service for small package shipments offered by a passenger airline in the U.S., reports Schednet.com.

There are plans for a new 14,400 square foot Global Priority Shipping Center, located at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, to bring a new level of convenience to businesses or individuals wishing to send a package via the next available flight.

The facility will offer centralized handling of American’s Priority Parcel Service and will also eventually handle additional express shipping products for American, American Eagle, and other partner airlines.

Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2002, the new facility will offer a convenient midfield location with easy, toll-free access from each direction.

It will also offer a climate controlled animal care centre, a large dock and ramp system for large vehicles, and expanded customer parking. The drive-thru lane will provide quick and easy service for small shipments, in addition to an expanded customer service area.

“Our customers are buying a high priority service, therefore the processing for these shipments needs to be as efficient as possible,” said David Brooks, American’s president of cargo.
