Air transport to grow between Canada and Switzerland
Transport Minister David Collenette and Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham have announced changes to the bilateral agreement between Canada and Switzerland that will increase air transport between the two countries.
Modifications to the agreement will allow any number of airlines to operate scheduled air service to any city in the other country, either on their own or on partners’ aircraft.
Prior to these changes, only two airlines were allowed to fly between specific city pairs. Swiss airlines were also restricted from flying their aircraft to Western Canada, and Canadian carriers could not operate services to Switzerland through other countries.
As a result of these changes, shippers seeking transportation between Canada and Switzerland should see an increased level of service at new prices.
