Air Canada Cargo says it will introduce a new airfreight carrier surcharge as unrest in the Middle East drives up operating costs.
The surcharge, set to take effect March 23 in most global markets, is intended to help offset rising fuel prices, higher airport and en-route fees and currency-related cost fluctuations, the company said.
Air Canada Cargo said different surcharge levels will apply depending on the length of the flight, with rates varying for short-, medium- and long-haul routes.
The surcharge will not apply in countries where fuel surcharges are regulated by government authorities and remains subject to regulatory approval in some markets.
The company said it will review and adjust the surcharge regularly as market conditions evolve, adding that it aims to maintain reliable service while managing volatile operating costs.
