Purolator extends partnership with KF Aerospace for its B.C. cargo service

Purolator has renewed its contract with KF Aerospace to operate the British Columbia Feeder Network (BCFN), continuing a nearly 50-year partnership. The new 10-year agreement continues the two companies’ collaboration and includes a major fleet upgrade to enhance cargo transport across the province.

Under the contract, KF Aerospace will replace its three Convair aircraft with three modern ATR72-500F planes—two containerized and one bulk-loader configuration. These aircraft offer improved fuel efficiency, greater capacity and operational flexibility, ensuring efficient and reliable service for Purolator’s extensive cargo network in B.C.

“This renewed agreement demonstrates our shared commitment to reliable cargo services across British Columbia,” said Tracy Medve, president and CEO of KF Aerospace. “The addition of ATR72-500F aircraft enhances range, capacity and efficiency, ensuring Purolator’s on-time reliability is maintained well into the future.”

KF Aerospace’s partnership with Purolator began in 1976, when founder Barry Lapointe personally piloted a high-priority cargo flight from Vancouver to Toronto. Since then, KF has supported Purolator’s Canadian network extensively, focusing exclusively on B.C. operations since 2015.

The ATR72-500F fleet upgrade marks a significant milestone in the partnership. KF Aerospace is managing the acquisition and conversion of the aircraft, with one conversion already nearing completion at its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in Kelowna.

“This agreement represents an exciting chapter for KF Aerospace and Purolator,” said Bryan Akerstream, director of business development at KF Aerospace. “The ATR72-500F’s efficiency supports Purolator’s mission to deliver critical goods across B.C. and positions them for potential expansion into new markets.”

Jay Kirkpatrick, director of air network operations at Purolator, highlighted the importance of the partnership: “Purolator is proud to extend our relationship with KF Aerospace for another 10 years. These fleet upgrades reinforce our commitment to exceptional service for customers across the country and ensure we meet their expectations for reliability and efficiency.”

The contract renewal comes as KF Aerospace continues to grow, securing new and ongoing civilian and military contracts. This development further solidifies its position as one of Canada’s most diverse and capable aerospace companies.
